1. Polhemus launches Liberty Tracker

Polhemus, the industry leader in 6 Degree of Freedom (DOF) motion capture, tracking and digitizing
technologies is proud to announce the new 6 DOF tracking product line named Liberty. This product
represents a quantum leap in new technology and state of the art Digital Signal Processor (DSP) electronics.
Liberty has speed (240 Hz per sensor), ease of use via an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI), scalability
and improved signal to noise ratios which increase stability and resolution while providing consistent high
quality data. The combination of all these attributes clearly positions Liberty as the forerunner in electromagnetic
tracking technology offering significant improvements over competitive systems. Liberty tracks objects at an
unprecedented speed of 240 updates per second, all sensors simultaneously, through the liberal use of
advanced DSPs that also provide cleaner signals to enable greater range and higher stability. Four sensors
are available on the base product, Liberty 240/4, and the simple addition of a single circuit board inside the
same chassis, creates the Liberty 240/8 with four more sensor channels. This makes the Liberty series by
far the most affordable, easiest to upgrade, simplest to use, quietest and fastest 6 DOF tracker on the market
today. And Liberty comes standard with both a serial I/O RS-232 and a high speed USB interface, at no extra
cost, to keep up with the voluminous rate of tracking data produced. The Liberty Series comes standard with
Windows 2000/XP GUI and a comprehensive, easy to use Software Developers Kit (SDK). The GUI allows four
independent user definable profiles for setting system parameters such as filtering, output formats, coordinate
rotations and many more. This is a valuable feature for multiple applications or users. For visualization, an
integrated motion box provides navigable points of view and can include text data. Additional features include a
data record/playback component, plus the capability to quickly export data via Microsoft® "Named Pipe". Each
sensor with the Liberty is able to independently detect distortion within the environment, alerting the user to
make appropriate changes if necessary. Resolution is better than 0.001 inch and 0.01 degrees, absolute
accuracy is better than 0.03 inches RMS for the X, Y and Z position and 0.15 degrees RMS for rotation. Latency
is less than 4 milliseconds for all sensors simultaneously. Range is in excess of five feet and can be substantially
extended with the use of an optional transmitter. The Polhemus Liberty series, in combination with our workhorse
of the industry FASTRAK® and time honored ISOTRAK® II, provides the customer with a full line of products to
meet various tracking requirements and budget constraints.

2. InterSense releases new product configuration - the IS-900 PCTracker

The cost effective IS-900 PCTracker is a new IS-900 configuration designed specifically to take advantage of fast,
Windows-based computers running with modern graphics engines for the budget conscious user. The PCTracker
eliminates the need for an IS-900 processor. InterSense's SensorFusion code for calculating the full 6-DOF
tracking solution is performed by the standard InterSense Windows dynamic link library (isense.dll). The MiniTrax
tracking devices and SoniStrips plug into the IS-900 PCTracker Hub, which interfaces directly to the computer via
an RS-232 serial port. The IS-900 PCTracker Hub will support a maximum of two MiniTrax devices (2 serial ports required)
and 3 SoniStrips (9 SoniDisc ultrasonic emitters). The standard IS-900 PCTracker System includes one
IS-900 PCTracker Hub, one wired MiniTrax Head tracker and a fixed SoniFrame assembly made up of two 4 ft.
SoniStrips and one 2 ft. SoniStrip. The fixed frame SoniFrame assembly provides a 2 x 2 x 3 meter tracking volume
with no special sighting or calibration of the SoniStrips. The three SoniStrips easily mount to the SoniFrame assembly
to produce a repeatable rigid structure that is portable and convenient to use. The IS-900 PCTracker System supports
all Windows platforms and is powered by an external power supply included with the PCTracker Hub. The
IS-900 PCTracker ships with an auto installer CD which provides the necessary InterSense library (isense.dll),
Server software and full software development kit (SDK) with programming examples and interface code needed to
help developers interface to their application program. Application programs that currently adhere to InterSense's API
for IS-900 systems are plug compatible with the IS-900 PCTracker. The IS-900 Wireless Modules are not compatible
with the IS-900 PC Tracker.
Beta units of the PCTracker have been in use for 6 months with positive results.

3. MicroOptical announces the SV-6 and CV-3

The CV-3 Video Viewer mounts on eyeglasses or safety eyewear and provides a monocular color full VGA image. It's a full
video rate product capable of full motion video at 60 frames per second.
It has a quick mount and dismount system so that it can be easily attached and detached from the user's eyewear.
The CV-3 is a field changeable left or right eye viewer. The focal distance can be adjusted from 2 feet to infinity.
The CV-3 provides convenient controls for adjusting the contrast, brightness, tint, and color of the image. The miniature
controls and battery are integrated in a lightweight, sleek system that is easily clipped to a belt or carried in a pocket. Operating
time on a single charge is approximately 5 hours.
The pixel format of the CV-3 is 640 columns by 480 rows, and the color depth is 16 bit (65,536 colors). The CV-3 is compatible
with most NTSC video sources and can be modified for PAL. Input to the CV-3 is through a conventional RCA connector -
the same connector found on most cameras and video equipment or a BNC adaptor can be used.

The SV-6 provides fits into the gap between the SV-3 and SV-9. It got convenient controls for adjusting the image. The miniature
controls and battery are integrated in a lightweight, sleek system that is easily clipped to a belt or carried in a pocket. Operating
time on a single charge is approximately 8 hours.
The pixel format of the SV-3 is 640 columns by 480 rows, and the color depth is 16 bit (64.000 colors). The SV-6 is compatible
with most computers, test instruments, portable flaw detectors for non-destructive testing and medical imaging devices. Input to
the SV-6 is through a conventional DB-15 connector - the same connector found on computer monitors.

Both products are scheduled for release by the end of June or early July.
