MINUTEMAN™
The Polhemus MINUTEMAN has been discontinued.
Exceptional affordability, stable, drift free performance and compact styling converge in MINUTEMAN, 3 Degree-Of-Freedom (3DOF) orientation tracking system, offering remarkably simple setup and implementation. With MINUTEMAN, you get high performance without paying a high price. MINUTEMAN delivers fast update rates, low latency and high resolution, making it ideal for head mounted display-based (HMD) virtual reality, game, simulation and training applications.
Performance and Affordability
Exclusive advancements in digital signal processor (DSP) technology have enabled Polhemus to make MINUTEMAN affordable without sacrificing performance. MINUTEMAN tracks up to two sensors at 75Hz per sensor. MINUTEMAN's on-board microprocessor ensures an absolutely stable update rate regardless of the Windows operating system. MINUTEMAN never ties up your CPU to make complicated calculations. It has no angular limitations and provides full 360 degree coverage on all 3 axes.
Easy Setup and Implementation
Whether you're upgrading from another tracker or starting at the drawing board, MINUTEMAN is quick and simple to install and implement. The sensors' mounting brackets have the same hole spacing as standard Polhemus sensors and also match the bracket footprints of most competing systems. As a result, customers can often upgrade to a MINUTEMAN system without drilling new holes.
MINUTEMAN includes powerful software tools. A software developer's kit (SDK) facilitates rapid integration into custom applications. Full InertiaCube2 emulation software is provided for plug-and-play hardware replacement without having to worry about rewriting code.
Streamlined Components
The highly streamlined MINUTEMAN system includes an electronic E-Pod with an integrated magnetic source, and one external sensor with a removable 7 foot cable. A 17 foot USB cable is included for connecting the E-Pod to the host PC, providing ample installation flexibility. The system can be expanded by adding a second sensor.
Measuring in at 3 by 4 by 1.4 inches (LWH), the compact E-Pod includes the software and hardware required to generate and sense magnetic fields, compute orientation and interface with the host computer via USB 2.0. The E-Pod's integrated source emits the electromagnetic field that's used as a frame of reference for tracking the sensor. Power is supplied through the USB connection, eliminating the need for an external power supply. The E-Pod's built-in tripod mount makes setup and positioning a breeze.
Constructed with a hard plastic casing that's designed for durability, the sensor detects the magnetic fields emitted by the E-Pod. The lightweight sensor's orientation is precisely measured as it moves through space. For easy replacement, the cable detaches from the E-Pod and the sensor.
Advanced AC Technology
Polhemus pioneered AC motion tracking and has refined and perfected the technology through numerous generations. Unlike products based on pulsed DC technology, Polhemus trackers are not negatively affected by the earth's magnetic field, power outlets or electric motors. Because AC tracking is also more accurate and faster, it's clearly the superior choice. In fact, Polhemus originated pulsed DC technology, but chose not to pursue it because of performance shortcomings.
MINUTEMAN's advanced AC magnetic technology provides optimal signal-to-noise ratios. There is no need to worry about maintaining a clear line-of-sight between the senosr and source. Unlike sonic or laser devices, MINUTEMAN is not affected by signal blocking and interference.
