SVI Medical Workstation
Take a peek into the very near future of medicine: The SVI Medical Workstation.
Imagine this: doctors interacting with 3D images generated in front of them on their 3D computer monitors. They grab the image, rotate it, slice it, peel it, and probe it. They see full volumetric images; when they peel off the skin, they see the muscles. Peel off the muscles and they reveal the skull, then parts of the brain. Probing into the brain finally reveals the exact size and location of the tumor, and everything surrounding it. And it's all done with hand gestures. Not one doctor has picked up a scalpel, at least not yet.
At SVI we're working towards an exciting new vision for medicine- using breakthrough advances in 3D imaging technology to help doctors work virtually to diagnose internal problems and to plan invasive procedures. The SVI Medical Workstation is made to quickly and easily interface with existing diagnostic tools. Images from any DICOM compliant scan (CT, PET, MRI, and Ultrasound) from the medical facility’s Picture Archiving System can be compiled, displayed, and interacted with in a real time fashion in real, glasses-free 3D.
Surface and Volumetric data renderings can be displayed auto-stereoscopically, showing either exterior features or a combination of both exterior and interior features. These images will project out from the screen accurately in three dimensions without any visual aids, thus allowing one, or a team of doctors, to view the spatial information at the same time. What’s more, real time interaction with and navigation through the three dimensional images is intuitive and clear; 360° rotation complete with the ability to zoom in and out of any generated extraction is possible.
With the upcoming addition of the SVI SpaceTool, image interaction by hand gesture alone will open a whole new range of possibilities in the manipulation of volumetric data. Everything from the facilitation of anatomical education right on through to the planning and conducting of invasive procedures will turn the science fiction of the future into the reality of the present. Opening the third dimension means better reliability and facility from diagnosis all the way through successful procedure.
